Successful Refloating of Cargo Vessel Raba After Grounding Incident
On July 6, 2023, the cargo vessel 'Crown Mary' (IMO: 9466219) successfully arrived at the grounding location of the 'Raba,' which was stranded off the coast of Liepaja. 'Crown Mary' had departed from the Swedish port of Ahus on July 5 at 4:30 PM and was instrumental in discharging part of the cargo from the 'Raba.' Following this operation, the bulk carrier was refloated and securely anchored nearby for necessary inspections. After completing the assessments, the 'Raba' departed the anchorage on July 11, heading towards the Netherlands. It was anticipated to arrive at Maas Pilot by July 13 at 10 AM, eventually docking in Dordrecht. The vessel resumed its journey on July 17 at 1:20 PM, setting sail towards the North Sea for further orders. For visuals, visit: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2879518.
Vessel Raba Grounds Near Liepaja in Maritime Incident
On July 4, 2018, at approximately 2 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Raba' experienced a grounding shortly after departing from the port of Liepaja. The incident occurred near the southern breakwater, as the ship veered out of its designated fairway for reasons that remain unclear. Fortunately, there were no reported leaks or significant damages to the ship. Efforts to refloat the vessel involved the deployment of four Latvian tugs: 'Tak 1' (IMO: 7403196), 'Tak 5' (IMO: 7237262), 'Tak 7' (IMO: 9166534), and 'Namejs'. Despite three hours of attempts, the tugs were unable to successfully dislodge the 'Raba'. By the morning of July 5, the vessel was still immobilized, located at coordinates 56° 31.87' N and 020° 56.61' E, indicating that lightering operations would be necessary to free the ship.
