On June 16, 2019, the tugboat 'Dank Silver' collided with the Sunshine Bridge located in St. James Parish, Louisiana. The U.S. Coast Guard's New Orleans sector received notification of the incident at approximately 1:30 PM. At the time, the vessel was en route downriver from Burnside, Louisiana. Following the allision, 'Dank Silver' was secured at Grande View Anchorage around 3:00 PM for a thorough damage assessment. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or pollution as a result of the collision. The cause of the incident remains the subject of an ongoing investigation. Traffic resumed at about 3:45 PM following a two-hour disruption. Thankfully, the fenders of the bridge absorbed much of the impact, preventing further damage.
