Tanker Granato Faces Engine Troubles Near Brunsbüttel

Dec 20, 2018 09:59

On December 19, 2018, at 1:45 a.m., the tanker Granato departed from Rotterdam, en route to Kaliningrad with an expected time of arrival on December 21. However, during its transit, the vessel encountered critical engine failure at the locks of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel around 8:00 a.m. on December 20. During this unfortunate incident, the Granato briefly ran aground. Emergency anchoring procedures were initiated, and the vessel was subsequently assisted by the tugs Luchs (IMO-No.: 8912211) and Wolf (IMO-No.: 9036260). Once through the locks, the ship was towed to the railway pilings in the Brunsbüttel canal port by tugs Bugsier 15 (IMO-No.: 9021112) and Wolf for urgent repairs and investigations around 10:00 a.m. Thankfully, the Granato was able to continue its voyage at 6:40 p.m. However, on December 21 at 5:20 a.m., another engine failure occurred while navigating through Groß-Nordsee. The disabled tanker was redirected to Kiel, arriving at the North Jetty of the Scheer Port at 12:50 a.m. on December 22. After completing necessary repairs, the Granato departed Kiel shortly after midnight on December 23, finally continuing its journey to Kaliningrad, where it arrived on December 24. Granato in Quarantine in Spain Following Crew Member's Mysterious Death

Aug 03, 2015 08:57

The product tanker Granato has been placed under strict quarantine in El Ferrol, La Coruna, Spain, as of August 2, 2023, after the untimely death of a crew member believed to be linked to an infectious disease. While en route from Leixoes, Portugal, to El Ferrol, the vessel requested urgent medical assistance after a crew member of Indian nationality passed away, initially thought to have suffered a cardiac seizure. Upon transferring the body to a local hospital, an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be an infectious disease, prompting legal action from the court in Vigo to enforce a quarantine. Under this order, no individuals are permitted to board or disembark from the Granato, with the exception of medical specialists. The tanker recently docked at several ports, including Rotterdam and Antwerp. The duration of the quarantine is expected to last between one to two days, contingent upon the outcomes of ongoing medical evaluations.
