Vialis Bunker Tanker Splits While Refueling Marida Mimosa in Rotterdam
A serious maritime incident occurred on June 22, 2011, in the Caland Canal of Rotterdam when the bunker tanker 'Vialis' (ENI-No.: 03150421), weighing 1,500 tons, broke in two while transferring fuel to the vessel 'Marida Mimosa.' This unfortunate event led to a spill of diesel fuel into the canal. In response to the emergency, the tanker 'Hydrovac 9' was dispatched to pump out the remaining diesel and contain the situation. Oil booms were deployed alongside efforts from local police and the harbor service, along with the specialized anti-pollution vessel 'HEBO Cat 5.' Additionally, tugs 'SD Seal' and 'SD Stingray' arrived on the scene to assist with the ongoing operation.
