In a decisive act to combat maritime piracy, the Indian Navy's INS Sukanya successfully thwarted an assault on the Indian merchant vessel, MV Desh Rakshak, in the Arabian Sea on yesterday’s date. The incident unfolded as a suspicious boat, approximately 12 meters long, was spotted approaching the merchant vessel from a distance of five to six nautical miles. According to an official statement, crew members were seen preparing to board a skiff to approach Desh Rakshak. Responding swiftly, INS Sukanya, engaged in escort operations at the time, redirected its course towards the suspicious boat and deployed a Chetak helicopter for reconnaissance. Upon nearing the vessel, the crew, numbering 14, was ordered to gather on the upper deck, effectively halting any potential threat. This operation underscores the Indian Navy's commitment to ensuring maritime safety amidst rising piracy concerns in the region.
