Working Conditions Aboard the Dongbang-Giant-No.1

In a significant achievement, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has successfully handled its largest and longest heavy lift cargo at the Free Port, adjacent to Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi. This milestone shipment consisted of five massive pieces of infrastructure equipment delivered for Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company, known as Takreer, as part of the construction of a new carbon black and delayed coker plant at the chemical refining complex located in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. The heavy lift cargo arrived recently aboard a specialized project carrier from Ulsan, Korea, occupying three berths at the Free Port. The MV Dongbang Giant No. 1 transported a total weight of 3,367 metric tonnes across these five pieces, with an impressive volume of 29,492 cubic meters. The individual pieces ranged from 140 to 1,531 metric tonnes and were expertly unloaded onto the quayside using roll-off operations with self-propelled modular transport (SPMT) trailers, equipped with up to 76 axles. After a planned ten-day storage period at the Free Port, these heavy lift components will be reloaded onto a barge for a journey down the coast to Ruwais. This impressive operation required meticulous coordination between the ADPC operations team and Takreer to facilitate smooth transshipment, ensuring all logistics were in place for such oversized shipments. Notably, the standout piece of this delivery measured an exceptional 116 meters in length and weighed 1,531 metric tonnes, making it the longest heavy lift cargo to ever be unloaded at the Free Port. This successful delivery highlights Abu Dhabi’s expanding capabilities in managing challenging and large-scale maritime logistics.
