AET Launches Its Inaugural LNG Dual-Fuel Aframaxes: Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu
In a significant move to enhance environmental sustainability in maritime operations, Singapore-based tanker operator AET has officially named its first two LNG dual-fuel aframaxes, the Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu. The ceremony took place at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), marking a noteworthy addition to AET's fleet and building on parent company MISC’s extensive expertise as an owner and operator of LNG carriers. Designed for optimal performance, these new aframaxes are equipped with two type-C tanks, each with an 850 cubic meter capacity. These tanks are strategically positioned on the main deck, both port and starboard, allowing for efficient ship-to-ship bunkering of LNG fuel. With a commendable operational range of approximately 6,000 nautical miles when utilizing LNG, these vessels epitomize modern maritime innovation. One of the standout features of the Eagle Brasilia and Eagle Bintulu is their contribution to reducing harmful emissions. By operating on LNG, the vessels achieve a near-complete reduction of SOx emissions, surpassing the strict global IMO 0.5% sulphur cap that came into effect in 2020. This commitment to cleaner fuel underscores AET's dedication to sustainability in shipping. Expected to begin operations in the Atlantic Basin in Q4 of this year, both vessels will embark on long-term charters with Shell International Trading and Shipping, marking a promising venture for both AET and the future of eco-friendly maritime transport.
