On April 13, 2020, a tragic accident occurred involving a 55-year-old crew member from Latvia aboard the tanker 'Elandra Baltic.' The incident took place as the ship was arriving at Fos-sur-Mer from Agio Theodoroi. The crew member fell approximately six meters into the sea while attempting to secure the fallreep for the pilot's boarding. Following the fall, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was promptly initiated. The operation included the Dragon 131 helicopter from Marignane civil security, two pilot boats from the Grand Maritime Port of Marseille (GPMM), the SNSM speedboat from Carro, and a semi-rigid craft from the Marseille firefighters based at Port of Bouc. Despite calm weather conditions aiding the search efforts, the crew member was not located, leading to the suspension of the search in the afternoon. At the time, the 'Elandra Baltic' was anchored in Fos-sur-Mer.

This milestone marks the completion of the first phase in the company's fleet modernization initiative. Over the past six years, LSC has impressively cut the average age of its fleet from 17.5 years down to just 5 years, a crucial strategy for maintaining competitiveness in the global maritime industry. Zemgale, which boasts a capacity of 52,000 DWT, is designed for transporting oil and chemicals globally, including navigating through icy regions of the world's oceans. Zemgale is the second new tanker to join LSC's fleet in the summer of 2011, reinforcing the company's commitment to a modern and efficient fleet.
