The ship has been immobilized in Ghent due to engine issues since June 6, 2011. On August 30, officials at the port of Ghent confirmed that arrangements have been made for the ship to be towed to Rotterdam. Throughout this challenging period, the local port operator and CPAS have diligently provided the crew with essential supplies, including food, water, and fuel. On August 27, the crew, which comprises ten Ukrainian nationals, a Russian captain, and a Filipino crew member, received their overdue salaries and prepared to return home. Crew of Eleousa Trikoukiotis to Remain Onboard Until August 5
The twelve-member crew of the Eleousa Trikoukiotis, currently stranded in Ghent since early June, will remain on board until August 5. This decision followed discussions with the Port of Ghent Authority. The vessel has been under seizure since July 20, prompting the ship's owner to allocate funds for fuel to operate the generator, ensuring that essential electricity for heating, lighting, and refrigerator operations remains available. Meanwhile, the Red Cross is in the process of organizing arrangements for the crew's repatriation.
Food and Water Provided to Crew of Seized Tanker 'Eleousa Trikoukiotis'
On July 27, 2011, the Port of Ghent stepped in to provide essential supplies to the crew of the seized tanker 'Eleousa Trikoukiotis,' which has been docked at Kluizen Dock since June 6. The urgent delivery of food and water came as the vessel's fuel supply dwindled, threatening the generators and the well-being of the twelve remaining crew members aboard. The 'Eleousa Trikoukiotis' had previously delivered oil to Algist Bruggeman but ran into engine problems shortly after in early June. The situation escalated when the ship was seized on July 20 due to unresolved issues concerning crew wages. Just two days prior, on July 22, a critical supply of 20,000 liters of water was provided to the crew. In collaboration with the Red Cross, efforts are underway to facilitate the repatriation of some crew members to their home countries.
