Collision at Rostock: Icebreaker 'Stettin' Strikes Ferry 'Finnsky'
On August 12, 2017, in the early afternoon, an incident occurred involving the German steam icebreaker 'Stettin' as it was preparing to depart from the Port of Rostock to participate in the Hanse Sail parade. Just as it was about to set sail with 180 passengers onboard, the icebreaker collided with the port-side stern of the ferry 'Finnsky' near the offshore port area between berths 60 and 64. The impact resulted in a two-meter breach above the waterline on the hull of the 'Stettin.' Although ten passengers sustained injuries requiring medical attention, the rest of the passengers were safely transferred onto other vessels participating in the parade. Following the collision, the ferry 'Finnsky' managed to dock at berth 60, while the icebreaker 'Stettin' returned to the port for a thorough investigation into the accident. Finnsky Runs Aground Near Warnemünde After Anchor Misadventure
The Finnsky faced an unexpected predicament off the coast of Warnemünde, where it became stranded until December 9, 2013. After departing Lübeck on December 6, the vessel was anchored to weather the storm but fell victim to its own anchor chain, restraining its movements. Divers were promptly dispatched on December 9 to address the issue, utilizing welding equipment to sever the tangled anchor chain. The operation saw the involvement of the tugs Bugsier 15 and Bugsier 16, alongside the multipurpose vessel Baltic Taucher II from the Baltic Diving company based in Rostock. Following the successful recovery, the ferry docked at berth 60 in Rostock at 10 p.m. and set sail again on December 10 at 9:45 a.m., heading towards Aarhus.
