Delivery of Bugsier 7 Marks a New Era in Tug Operations

Jul 04, 2014 11:20

In early June 2014, the first of two advanced tugs, Bugsier 7, was successfully delivered from Fassmer Yard. This notable addition to the Bugsier fleet comes following an order placed in November 2012 for two identical vessels. Fassmer was tasked with designing, constructing, and delivering these 32-meter ship handling tractors, which are intended to replace the older units currently in service. While the Bugsier 7 features a design reminiscent of its predecessors, significant enhancements have been made to its hull form and propulsion system, ensuring it meets the latest shiphandling requirements. The second tug, Bugsier 8, is anticipated to be delivered by the end of 2014. Bugsier 7 measures an overall length of 31.50 meters, with a beam of 11.30 meters and a draft of 3.25 meters. It boasts impressive power with two ABC 12DZC1000 main engines, each generating 2249 kW, leading to a total power output of approximately 6032 bhp. The tug is equipped with robust Schottel SRP 4000 CP fully azimuthing propulsion units featuring controllable pitch propellers. During trials monitored by Germanischer Lloyd, Bugsier 7 demonstrated a remarkable bollard pull of 72 tonnes and achieved a free-running speed of 13 knots, underscoring its operational capabilities.
