On October 21, 2018, at 7 a.m., the tanker Filyoz embarked on its journey from La Plata to Concepción del Uruguay. However, a navigation misstep at 5 p.m. led the vessel to stray outside the established fairway on the Rio Uruguay. Located at kilometer 177, just south of Cambacua Island (Position 32° 33.47' S 058° 10.68' W), the tanker found itself unable to regain buoyancy using its own power. As a result, assistance was promptly requested from tugboats based in Buenos Aires. At the time, the Filyoz was manned by a crew of 15, all of whom hold Argentine nationality, and was transporting a substantial cargo of hydrocarbon derivatives, totaling 3,799 tons. This cargo included 1,638 tons of super naphtha, 459 tons of infinia naphtha, and 2,902 tons of diesel oil.
