On August 7, 2019, a significant maritime incident unfolded approximately 20 miles southeast of Oahu, involving the tanker "Pertusola" and the fishing vessel "Helen." The tanker, which was loaded with an impressive 2,300 metric tons of propane, prompted a swift response from the US Coast Guard after receiving a distress call from the captain of the "Helen" at 1:52 p.m. via VHF radio channel 16. In response, the crew of the US Coast Guard Cutter "Kittiwake (WPB 87316)" along with a 45-foot boat from Station Honolulu were dispatched to the scene for a thorough assessment of the situation. At the time of the collision, the "Pertusola" was anchored at the coordinates 21° 3.67' N 157° 38.05' W.
