EXMAR LPG Sells Two Legacy LPG Vessels to Strengthen Fleet

Feb 18, 2014 13:54

EXMAR LPG, a joint venture formed between EXMAR and Teekay LNG PARTNERS, has officially announced the sale of two older liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers, the Very Large Gas Carrier FLANDERS HARMONY, built in 1993 with a capacity of 85,826 m³, and the Midsize Gas Carrier TEMSE, constructed in 1994 with a capacity of 35,754 m³. According to the company’s press release, the TEMSE is slated for delivery to its new owners by the end of Q1 2014, while the FLANDERS HARMONY is expected to be handed over in the second quarter of 2014. EXMAR is poised to realize a capital gain of approximately USD 10.4 million from its 50% stake in EXMAR LPG, with net cash proceeds from the transaction estimated around USD 30 million. This strategic move to offload older vessels aligns with EXMAR LPG's upcoming deliveries of newer, more efficient Midsize newbuildings, which will significantly enhance the company’s capacity to serve clients with a modern and innovative fleet. Furthermore, EXMAR LPG has increased its stake from 33% to 50% in the time-chartered vessels BW TOKYO (83,300 m³, built in 2009) and BW KYOTO (83,300 m³, built in 2010). Starting in late March, EXMAR will also take on the commercial operation of the BW TOKYO, solidifying its position in the competitive LPG market.
