On January 23, the bulk carrier 'Glory First' was successfully refloated after becoming grounded in the southern Kattegat near Yder Flak, northeast of Samsø island. The operation, which began at 7:40 p.m., involved pumping out ballast water to regain stability. The vessel then made its way to the port of Aarhus, arriving just before midnight. Upon arrival, it was assisted by two tugs, 'Aros' (IMO: 9259238) and 'Hermes' (IMO: 7711799), which are currently aiding in the docking process. Following the refloating, the 'Glory First' is undergoing thorough inspections by divers to ensure its seaworthiness.
Bulk Carrier Glory First Runs Aground in Kattegat
In the early hours of January 21, 2016, the bulk carrier 'Glory First' found itself hard aground in the southern Kattegat, specifically at Yder Flak, shortly after midnight. The vessel, which was partially loaded with soybeans, was traveling from San Lorenzo, Argentina, to Aarhus when it encountered difficulties between the islands of Sjælland and Jylland. Prompt action was taken by the Danish Navy, dispatching the support ship 'Esbern Snare' during the night. By morning, the anti-pollution vessel 'Mette Miljø' (IMO: 8002468) was also called into action from Grenaa. However, during the night’s tide, attempts to dislodge the ship proved futile. Danish authorities subsequently detained the 'Glory First,' awaiting a salvage plan from its owners and the insurance company. Before a salvage plan could be confirmed, divers from EA Dykning were sent to inspect the vessel. By 11 a.m. on January 23, the Danish tug 'Svitzer Trym' (IMO: 9548354) had been dispatched from Korsör to assist. After enduring days of uncertainty, the 'Glory First' was successfully refloated at 7:40 p.m. that same day and made its way to the port of Aarhus just before midnight, escorted by the tugs 'Aros' (IMO: 9259238) and 'Hermes' (IMO: 7711799).
