Grande-Africa Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On July 15, 2020, at 2:05 PM, the cargo ship 'Grande Africa' encountered technical issues while traveling from Antwerp to Le Havre. The vessel sustained rudder damage and was forced to anchor just before the Zandvliet lock fairway. To assist with the situation, five tugboats were deployed. The 'Grande Africa' successfully made its way back to the Kieldrecht lock, where it was moored on the left bank at 3:50 PM. Currently, the ship is at berth 1355, awaiting thorough inspections. As of July 16, the vessel remains at a standstill, closely monitored for any necessary repairs.

A maritime incident unfolded on February 20, 2015, at 2:45 p.m. when the cargo vessel Grance Africa, departing from Antwerp and heading to Lome, collided with the tank barge Leonardo, which has a gross tonnage of 2,508 ts (EU-No.: 07001724) in the waters of the Wester Scheldt. The collision occurred as the Leonardo attempted to navigate past the outgoing Grance Africa from the starboard side, resulting in considerable damage to the port side of the tank barge. Rescue operations were promptly initiated with tugs from Multraship and the Union of Rescue and Towing rushing to the scene. Fortunately, their intervention was not required as the damaged Leonardo was successfully guided back towards Antwerp. Following the incident, the barge was later able to make its way to Doel. In contrast, the Grance Africa emerged from the ordeal with minimal damage and continued on its voyage to Flushing.
