Prospero Resumes Voyage to Frederikshavn Following Repair Work
The vessel 'Prospero' has successfully completed repairs to its port side after sustaining damage from a collision with the 'EDT Hercules' in the Kiel Canal. Following repairs, the 'Prospero' docked at Rotterdam from February 23 at 3 a.m. until February 24 at 1 a.m. The ship is now en route to Frederikshavn as its next port of destination. The incident in the Kiel Canal reportedly occurred when a strong gust of wind unexpectedly pushed the 'EDT Hercules' toward the 'Prospero', causing both ships to draw closer than advisable during the passing maneuver.
Incident on the Kiel Canal Involves EDT Hercules and Prospero
On February 20, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., a maritime incident occurred on the Kiel Canal near Breiholz, specifically at canal kilometer 49. The offshore supply vessel 'EDT Hercules' was involved in a collision with the tanker 'Prospero' as both vessels were traveling westbound. The innovative X-bow design of the 'EDT Hercules' resulted in a scrape along the port side of the 'Prospero' during an overtaking maneuver. The damage to the 'Prospero' included bent railings and a breach measuring 10 centimeters on the deck. Following the incident, the tanker, which was en route from Swinoujscie to Rotterdam, docked at the Navy pilings in Brunsbüttel at approximately 3:30 p.m. It resumed its journey a day later, with an estimated time of arrival in Rotterdam set for February 22 at 11:00 a.m. Meanwhile, the 'EDT Hercules,' which incurred damage to its starboard side aft, also moored at the railway pilings located on the opposite side of the canal, continuing on its voyage the next day. After departing from Mukran on February 19, the 'EDT Hercules' successfully reached Esbjerg by 7:00 a.m. on February 22.
