On the evening of June 30, 2013, the crew of the Gravesend RNLI Lifeboat Station sprang into action to assist three sailors aboard a small yacht that became ensnared under the stern of the oil tanker "Haci Fatma Ana". This incident occurred in the Thames River near Dagenham as the newly acquired vessel was making its maiden voyage from Gallions Point Marina in North Woolwich, heading downstream. Unexpectedly, the yacht's outboard motor failed, leaving the inexperienced sailors without control as the swift tide pulled them beneath the tanker, which was unloading its cargo at Thunderer Jetty. In a precarious situation, the yacht was pinned against the ship, presenting the imminent risk of capsizing and being drawn beneath the overhanging stern. The dedicated team from Gravesend RNLI quickly arrived on the scene and successfully attached a towline to the distressed yacht.
