Working Conditions Aboard the Hafnia-Ammolite

On December 14, 2018, the oil tanker 'Navig8 Ammolite' experienced a lube oil leak while moored in Weymouth Bay after arriving from Klaipeda. The incident was reported at 9:40 AM, with the vessel located at coordinates 50° 36.352' N, 002° 22.992' W. The leak originated from the stern tube, significantly restricting the vessel’s mobility. Fortunately, there were no reports of pollution resulting from the incident. In response to the situation, the tugboat 'Formidable' was dispatched from Portland to provide assistance. Assessments indicated that complete repairs would take approximately 48 to 60 hours, as divers faced challenges accessing the site due to inclement weather conditions. The Solent Coastguard coordinated efforts with local shipping agents to ensure an effective response to the leak. By December 16, the tug successfully assisted the 'Navig8 Ammolite' into Portland, where it moored at coordinates 50° 34.85' N, 002° 25.96' W. Diving operations commenced promptly, with divers from the 'Shoreline Engineer' (MMSI: 235040015) arriving to commence repair work on the immobilized tanker, which remained docked for 48 to 60 hours while repairs were carried out.
