Armed Robbery on Tanker 'Stenaweco Caterina Corrado' at Puerto La Cruz

Feb 07, 2018 11:36

On January 31, 2018, at approximately 7:10 PM local time, the tanker 'Stenaweco Caterina Corrado' faced an alarming incident at the Puerto La Cruz anchorage, when seven armed assailants boarded the vessel. The robbers, brandishing knives, took control of the situation by taking the duty Able Seaman hostage during his routine patrol at coordinates 10°16'50" N, 64°42'30" W. They tied him to the windlass rail and made off with his personal safety shoes and a portable UHF radio. A quick-thinking crew member near the accommodation area spotted the intruders and promptly raised the alarm. The crew quickly assembled, initiating a search that led to the successful release of the Able Seaman. However, it was discovered that the paint store had been breached, and various ship supplies had gone missing. Efforts to reach port control for assistance proved futile amidst the chaos.
