The Hafnia-Phoenix: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On September 22, 2020, the tanker ÄHafnia Phoenix encountered a precarious situation while navigating the waters off Ghana, approximately 74 nautical miles southeast of Takoradi. While traveling from Lomé to Abidjan, the vessel was approached by a suspicious speedboat believed to be manned by eight individuals. Eyewitnesses reported that the boat was equipped with a ladder, raising concerns of an imminent boarding attempt. In a swift reaction, the crew of the ÄHafnia Phoenix accelerated the ship and executed evasive maneuvers, successfully veering away from the potential threat. Fortunately, the tanker managed to escape the area without sustaining any incidents.

On December 28, 2018, a 31-year-old crew member aboard the merchant vessel "Hafnia Phoenix" required urgent medical attention, prompting a swift medevac operation by the Coast Guard. The incident occurred approximately 26 miles east of Boston, where the ship's captain alerted the Coast Guard Sector Boston watchstanders at around 11:15 a.m. Due to the crew member's deteriorating health, a medevac was deemed critical. Responding quickly, a rescue team from Coast Guard Station Boston, alongside emergency medical services personnel from Massachusetts General Hospital, launched to assist. The "Hafnia Phoenix" then proceeded towards Boston, where the Coast Guard arrived on scene around 12:15 p.m. The ill crew member was safely transferred aboard the Coast Guard vessel for immediate care and was later taken to Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, where an ambulance was ready to escort him to Tufts Medical Center for further medical attention.
