Fourth Sailor's Body Recovered from 'Fardin-1' Wreckage
On December 17, the Coast Guard divers successfully retrieved the body of another sailor who was missing from the ill-fated lighter vessel 'Fardin-1.' This tragic incident occurred on November 15 when the vessel, carrying 600 tons of coal, sank in the Pasur River close to Mongla Port in Bagerhat following a collision with the 'Handy Perth.' With this recovery, the total number of confirmed fatalities has now reached four, while one sailor remains unaccounted for. Of the seven crew members aboard the 'Fardin-1,' two were fortunate enough to swim to safety. The divers had previously located and recovered three bodies of the crew, leading to this latest discovery.
Salvage Operations Underway for Sunken Vessel 'Fardin-1' After Collision
Salvage efforts for the 'Fardin-1' have officially resumed following its sinking in the River Pasur near Mongla Port due to a collision with the 'Handy Perth' on the evening of November 15. A specialized 15-member rescue and diving team from Narayanganj, known as 'Bhai Bhai Salvage,' commenced the extraction of coal from the submerged vessel on the morning of November 24. The recovery of the wreck will only begin once all coal has been removed, a process made more challenging by sediment buildup and the significant volume of coal still onboard. Tragically, two crew members, identified as Jihad and Mohiuddin, remain unaccounted for, while authorities have recovered the bodies of three other crew members. Meanwhile, the 'Handy Perth' successfully docked at Dhamra Port on November 21.
Recovery Operation Continues: Body of Crew Member Found in Pasur River
In a tragic development from the Pasur River in Bagerhat, the body of Rabiul Islam, a 35-year-old crew member, has been recovered after the unfortunate capsizing of the fishing vessel 'FAri-1' following a collision with the bulk carrier 'Handy Perth.' Rabiul, who was originally from Swarupkathi in Pirojpur, went missing along with six other crew members after the incident. The search and rescue operations were formally concluded on November 18, with three crew members still unaccounted for. Undeterred by the official halt of the rescue efforts, Rabiul's family continued their search and, tragically, discovered his body floating near the Harbaria No 12 Anchorage area on the morning of November 19. They promptly alerted local authorities for assistance. The remaining crew members still missing are identified as Md Jihad from Bhandaria, Pirojpur, and Md Samsu from Mongla, Bagerhat.
