Sanctioned Russian Tankers Offload Oil to Chinese-Controlled Vessel
In a significant maritime operation, the 'Zaliv Vostok' and 'Zaliv Baikal', both operated by the sanctioned Russian state shipping company Sovcomflot, successfully transferred their cargoes of Sakhalin crude oil to the Chinese-controlled tanker 'Hannah'. This transfer, which took place on February 15 and 27, 2025, amounted to a substantial 700,000 barrels of oil being offloaded to the 105,900 DWT 'Hannah'. Despite the fact that the US imposed sanctions on the Russian tankers in January 2025, the 'Hannah' remains off the blacklist. Notably, the vessels exhibited irregular AIS signals during the ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operations. Following the transfer, the 'Hannah' discharged the oil at Gulei and subsequently continued its journey to Kozmino, Russia, on March 20. Since February, the Chinese Metis Company has been managing operations for the 'Hannah'.
