The captain of the cargo ship 'Haykal', 60-year-old Badar Hasnain from Pakistan, was successfully medevaced by the Indian Coast Guard on July 17, 2020, after suffering a heart stroke while navigating toward Gopalpur in Odisha. After a month of medical care, his condition has stabilized, and he is set to return to Pakistan on August 17, crossing the Attari-Wagah border. The distress signal for Hasnain prompted an urgent response from the Indian Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Chennai. The vessel was promptly redirected to Visakhapatnam, where the captain was safely disembarked on July 13, assisted by the dedicated team at Vizag Port. He was then transported to Queen's NRI Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
