The search for a crewmember who fell overboard from the tanker 'Hellas Gladiator' has officially been suspended by the Coast Guard. This incident took place approximately 400 miles east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, on June 26. The Coast Guard coordinated an extensive search effort, deploying HC-130 Hercules aircraft that completed 22 sorties, logging a total of 45 hours of flight time over a vast area of around 4,000 square miles. The emergency response began when the Coast Guard’s Fifth District command center was alerted by the First District Command Center about a man overboard situation on the vessel. In addition to the Coast Guard’s search aircraft from Air Station Elizabeth City, two nearby vessels also participated in the search efforts after being alerted through Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue messages.

The urgent alert was raised when watchstanders at the Coast Guard's Fifth District command center received information from their counterparts at the First District Command Center regarding the crew member's disappearance. In response, the Coast Guard deployed an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Air Station Elizabeth City to assist in the search efforts. Furthermore, two nearby vessels, alerted through Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue messages, have also joined the operation in hopes of locating the missing individual.
