Canada welcomes a fresh face in the tanker ownership arena as McKeil Marine, a prominent maritime player based in Ontario, solidifies its position by acquiring two Turkish product tankers. This strategic move not only complements McKeil's existing fleet of tugs, barges, and general cargo vessels but also marks a significant expansion into the tanker sector. The Burlington-headquartered company, celebrating 62 years in the maritime industry, has reached an agreement with Istanbul-based Transal Denizcilik Ticaret, securing the ice-class tankers Topaz-T for $9 million and Turquoise-T for $8.5 million. This transaction follows closely behind Algoma, another Canadian operator that recently acquired a similarly sized product tanker named Ramira. McKeil Marine’s latest investments are set to enhance its operational capabilities, positioning the company for future growth in the maritime market.
