Emergency Medical Evacuation of Crew Member from Horizon Geobay Near Cape Prior
On August 15, 2021, a crew member aboard the 'Horizon Geobay' was urgently medevaced approximately 200 miles northwest of Cape Prior due to a medical emergency. The British Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) alerted Salvamento MarĂtimo, seeking immediate assistance for the patient's transfer. A helicopter, Helimer 401, along with a 'Sasema 102' aircraft from Lavacolla Airport, were mobilized for this critical operation. The SAR helicopter took off from Alvedro Airport in A Coruña around 6:00 PM, reaching the designated rendezvous point by 8:00 PM. After successfully hoisting the patient, the helicopter returned to Alvedro Airport by 9:20 PM. There, an ambulance from Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 was ready to transport the individual to A Coruña University Hospital Complex (CHUAC) for further medical attention.
