Working Conditions Aboard the Innovation

GeoSea’s advanced jack-up vessel, Innovation, has successfully completed the installation of the last of 20 suction bucket jacket foundations for Ørsted’s significant 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project, located in the German North Sea. With this milestone, the wind farm has now fully installed all of its suction bucket foundations alongside the 36 monopile foundations. The journey began in early June when Innovation transport the inaugural suction bucket jacket from Cuxhaven and positioned it at the offshore site, approximately 54 kilometers from Lower Saxony’s coastline. The final jacket foundation was put in place on Monday, July 30. Meanwhile, the installation of the 56 state-of-the-art MHI Vestas 8MW turbines is actively progressing and is forecasted to wrap up by the third quarter of 2018. On January 2, 2017, Sif made significant strides in offshore wind energy infrastructure by loading its inaugural monopile onto a sea-going vessel. The operation took place at the newly developed deep-sea quay (port number 8317) at Maasvlakte 2 and featured the Innovation, a heavy-lift jack-up vessel operated by Geosea, a subsidiary of the Belgian DEME Group. These colossal monopiles serve as foundational components for offshore wind turbines, each weighing over 1,000 tonnes. A total of four monopiles were loaded for transport, along with transition pieces designed to seamlessly connect the turbine towers to the monopiles. Following this pivotal loading, the Innovation set sail that same evening, bound for a wind farm off the coast of the United Kingdom to commence the installation of these essential structures. This undertaking will be succeeded by additional transport operations in the upcoming weeks. Overdick has proudly announced the successful delivery of the Heavy Lift Jack-Up Vessel (HLJV) 'Innovation' to its clients, HGO Infra Sea Solutions, which comprises HOCHTIEF Solutions and GeoSea.
