On May 28, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Global Standard', while anchored north of Ko Si Chang at the Laem Chabang – Sri Racha anchorage, encountered severe weather conditions. High winds and torrential rain caused the ship to drag its anchor, resulting in significant contact with the seabed and the destruction of coral reefs covering an area of 2,800 square meters. The assessed cost of damage amounted to around 42,200 Baht per square meter, resulting in an overall financial impact estimated at $3.5 million. Following this incident, the 'Global Standard' was observed anchoring at Ko Si Chang on May 31.
