Disabled Trawler 'Izumrud' Successfully Towed to Kirkenes
On March 19, 2020, the fishing vessel 'Izumrud' encountered a significant issue while operating in the Barents Sea, as its entire trawl bag became entangled in the propeller, leaving the ship incapacitated. In response to the emergency, the Russian rescue ship 'Atriya' collaborated with the Norwegian society for sea rescue by deploying the NSSR vessel 'Reidar Von Koss' to assist with the situation. After taking over the towing responsibilities from the Russian salvage ship, 'Reidar Von Koss' navigated through challenging sea conditions to secure the trawler. Following a grueling ten-hour operation, 'Izumrud' was safely brought to the dock at DykkNor in Kirkenes on March 20 at 7:40 a.m., where it could receive the necessary attention. The trawler resumed its journey on March 26 at 8:10 a.m., making its way back to the fishing grounds with an estimated time of arrival set for March 29. Kvalstein Trawler Rescued After Engine Failure Off Norwegian Coast
On March 17, 2016, the fishing trawler 'Kvalstein' experienced a critical engine failure approximately 300 miles from the Norwegian coastline. In light of the emergency, the Norwegian patrol vessel 'Svalbard' was promptly dispatched to provide assistance, as 'Kvalstein' became stranded amidst turbulent conditions characterized by strong winds and rough seas. With wave heights reaching between seven and eight meters, establishing a towing connection proved challenging and dangerous. After a day of waiting for conditions to improve, the salvage operation commenced on the afternoon of March 18. Although the initial towing attempt was unsuccessful, the crew of 'Svalbard' persisted and subsequently secured the trawler successfully. Eventually, 'Kvalstein' was safely brought to port in Havøysund, Tromsø, where it arrived at 9:45 p.m. on March 20.
