On September 30, 2021, the 'Grand Ace 8' tanker experienced a collision with the oil terminal jetty in Chattogram, Bangladesh, while attempting to moor. This vessel, which had recently arrived from Malaysia and Map Ta Phut in Laem Chabang, was transporting 35,074 tons of diesel oil. A portion of the cargo was intended to be lightered at the anchorage to facilitate the tanker’s entry into the port. The incident led to considerable damage to Dolphin Jetty-5, estimated at approximately $1.9 million. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was due to malfunctioning anchoring mechanisms.
