In a remarkable showcase of preparedness and strategic response, city police conducted a groundbreaking security drill known as 'Operation Hamla-3' aboard the oil tanker Jag Prakash. This intensive exercise unfolded over three days, commencing on Wednesday afternoon and culminating early Friday morning. During the operation, authorities simulated a hijacking scenario, successfully apprehending three individuals acting as terrorists who attempted to seize control of the vessel shortly after its departure from Colombo. The simulated hijackers held the ship’s 30 crew members hostage, demanding a ransom of Rs 15 crore, along with the release of five terrorists currently incarcerated at Puzhal, as well as a speedboat and helicopter for their escape to Pakistan. This drill, the third in a series aimed at enhancing maritime security, has set a new benchmark in the city's law enforcement history.
