Jens Albrecht Stuck Off Horumersiel: A Rescue Story

Aug 22, 2016 12:34

On August 19, 2016, at approximately 5 p.m., the vessel 'Jens Albrecht' found itself grounded near the entrance of the port of Horumersiel. The lifeboat 'Baltrum,' operated by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) from Horumersiel station, was promptly dispatched to the scene to assist in the rescue operation. Despite their best efforts, the team faced challenges as the outgoing tide hindered their attempts to refloat the vessel. As midnight approached, however, the situation changed with the arrival of the rising tide. At 12:30 a.m., the 'Baltrum' successfully freed the 'Jens Albrecht,' which had no passengers on board at the time. After the successful operation, the 'Jens Albrecht' safely navigated back to Hooksiel. Jens Albrecht Grounded Near Mellum Island During Leisure Cruise

Jul 29, 2014 09:49

On July 24, 2014, the sightseeing vessel 'Jens Albrecht' experienced a grounding incident off the coast of Mellum Island while operating a leisure cruise, coinciding with the receding tide. The vessel, carrying 170 passengers, promptly alerted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Bremen, operated by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). Health concerns arose for six adults and one child aboard, necessitating their evacuation by the lifeboat 'Vormann Steffens' from the DGzRS station in Hooksiel, which transported them safely to shore. Meanwhile, the 'Baltrum' lifeboat from the DGzRS station in Horumersiel and a rescue boat from the German Lifeguard Association (DLRG) remained on standby. Thanks to the joint efforts of these rescue teams, 'Jens Albrecht' was successfully refloated around 8 p.m. and escorted back to Hooksiel, ensuring the safety of all passengers onboard.

Disabled Passenger Vessel Rescued and Towed to Hooksiel

Mar 30, 2013 10:09

On March 28, 2013, the passenger ship "Jens Albrecht" encountered a significant challenge while en route to Hooksiel, near Spiekeroog. The vessel's main engine failed amidst the adverse conditions of 6 Beaufort winds and snow showers, leaving it adrift. Compounding the situation, the auxiliary engine also failed to operate correctly. Concerned about the risk of running aground near Spiekeroog, the crew promptly contacted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Bremen for assistance. In response, the lifeboat "Wilma Sikorski," dispatched from the DGzRS station in Wangerooge, arrived on the scene around 10:20 p.m. At that time, the "Jens Albrecht," struggling against the strong winds, was making only about four knots with the help of its malfunctioning auxiliary engine. As the lifeboat escorted the disabled vessel, the "Vormann Steffens" from the DGzRS station in Hooksiel also headed towards the location. By 11 p.m., the lifeboat successfully took the "Jens Albrecht" in tow off Wangerooge. The operation proceeded safely, and the passenger ship was securely berthed at Hooksiel by 1 a.m. on March 29, 2013, ensuring the well-being of its passengers and crew.
