The Joanne-Morrison: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On January 9, 2017, the offshore supply vessel 'Joanne Morrison' teamed up with the US Coast Guard to assist a distressed fishing vessel approximately 50 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana. The Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received an urgent call at 1:58 a.m. reporting that an 85-foot fishing boat with three crew members aboard was taking on water. In response, watchstanders quickly dispatched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle, along with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station in New Orleans, and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama. The helicopter crew reached the scene at 3:36 a.m., deploying a de-watering pump and a rescue swimmer to aid the beleaguered crew. The 45-foot response boat soon followed, bringing additional personnel and equipment to combat the flooding. Meanwhile, the HC-144 Ocean Sentry and the supply vessel stood by to monitor the situation. By around 4:09 p.m., the fishing crew successfully reported that they had sealed the leak. The situation drew the attention of the Coast Guard Cutter 'Sturgeon,' which arrived on scene at approximately 1 p.m. to oversee the vessel's safe journey back to shore.
