On January 10, 2019, the bulk carrier 'JSW Salem' encountered trouble off the coast of Virginia Beach, grounding approximately 2.5 miles east of the popular beach destination. The vessel, carrying a substantial cargo of 120,000 tons of coal and manned by a crew of 26, was en route from Baltimore to Inixy, India when the incident occurred near Cape Henry Buoy #4. The crew promptly contacted the U.S. Coast Guard's Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders in Portsmouth for assistance.
