Working Conditions Aboard the Kapitan-Sulimov

A tragic incident unfolded on July 13, 2017, when the trawler 'Kapitan Sulimov' encountered a smouldering fire in its fish-meal workshop while fishing in the southern Norwegian Sea. Smoke began to seep from the workshop, prompting four courageous crew members to rush in and combat the perceived blaze, devoid of breathing apparatus. Unfortunately, their decision led to inhalation of excessive smoke, resulting in their untimely deaths. It was later determined that there was no active fire; only corrugated packaging had been smouldering. Following the incident, the crew quickly extinguished the smouldering materials, and the vessel continued its journey towards the Faroe Islands. The trawler safely berthed in Torshavn on July 14 at 11 a.m. to allow for forensic examination and investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
