On May 20, 2016, at 10:20 a.m., the bulk carrier Ultra Lascar encountered a significant challenge as it lost propulsion while en route to San Francisco Bay from Topolobampo. The vessel proceeded to anchor at approximately 1:45 p.m., nearly three miles off the coast of Daly City. While awaiting the arrival of two assist tugs, the Ultra Lascar was joined by a third tug before moving to an anchorage in San Francisco Bay. The tugs achieved their rendezvous between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. During this incident, the Ultra Lascar was transporting a cargo of salt destined for the Port of Stockton, along with a substantial fuel reserve of around 161,000 gallons of fuel oil.
