Klara Undergoes Repairs After Collision Incident
Following a noteworthy collision with the bulk carrier Posidana, the vessel Klara has undergone significant repair work at Heros Quay in Sluiskil. The damage, particularly a gaping hole amidships, necessitated urgent stabilization measures, which included the installation of steel beams and plates on the starboard side for reinforcement. On May 13, at precisely 2:20 a.m., Klara was shifted to Autriche Port, where it docked at the Mammoet Quay. The ship then made its way to the De Schroef shipyard in Terneuzen, arriving on May 19 for more extensive repairs. These repairs were completed by August 31, allowing Klara to set sail once again from Terneuzen at 2:30 p.m. Its next destination was Southampton, where the ship arrived on September 1 at 11:40 p.m. Meanwhile, Posidana, which had departed from Terneuzen earlier on May 2 at 9:45 p.m., proceeded to Tilbury for a stay from May 3 to May 8 before heading to Londonderry. On May 13, Posidana left for Portocel, with an estimated time of arrival set for May 29. For more details, refer to the Dutch report with a photo available at Schuttevaer.
Maritime Incident Unfolds on Ghent-Terneuzen Canal
In a dramatic incident on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, the cargo vessel 'Klara' sustained significant damage following a collision with the 'Posidana' in the early hours of April 30, 2019. The accident occurred just after midnight beneath the Sluiskil bridge while the 'Klara' was en route from Ust-Luga to Ghent. The collision led to damage on the starboard side of the 'Klara,' resulting in water ingress. Responding swiftly, the crew aboard the patrol boat 'RWS 88' from Rijkswaterstaat boarded the damaged vessel from a pontoon stationed at the bridge. To assist the 'Klara,' Multraship dispatched the tugboat 'Multrasalvor 5' from Terneuzen, where the 'Klara' was safely moored between the East Quay and the Industriy Way in Sluiskil East. At the time of the impact, the 'Posidana' was on a journey from Ghent to Tilbury and docked at the bulk port of Terneuzen at 12:15 a.m. Following repairs, the 'Posidana' resumed its voyage, leaving the port on May 2 at 9:45 p.m. and arriving in Tilbury on May 3 at 10 a.m. Meanwhile, the 'Klara' remained docked at the East Quay in Terneuzen until May 7.
