Early Morning Blaze at Husum Shipyard Involves Vessel 'Koi'

Jan 17, 2020 10:58

In the early hours of January 17, 2020, a fire incident occurred at the Husum Shipyard, where the vessel 'Koi' was positioned for maintenance. The blaze ignited at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the engine room, coinciding with ongoing welding operations. Fortunately, swift action from the fire rescue team ensured the flames were extinguished, preventing any significant damage to the ship, which had been under drydock care since January 1. The prompt response helped to maintain safety at the yard and protect critical ship repair activities.

Party Cruise Cut Short as 'Koi' Faces Mechanical Issue

May 28, 2017 00:52

On May 27, 2017, a mechanical failure aboard the party vessel 'Koi' led to an abrupt end to an evening of festivities on the Elbe River. The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. shortly after the ship departed from Hamburg, when a cooling water hose linked to the starboard main engine detached, causing water to spray onto a hot exhaust pipe. With around 600 revelers onboard for the 'Spirit of Goa' festivities, the situation initially raised alarms due to the thick smoke that began to billow. Fortunately, the ship remained operational thanks to its twin engine propulsion. Prioritizing safety, the captain chose to swiftly return to Teufelsbrück in Hamburg to disembark all guests. Emergency services, including fire brigade units and a rescue helicopter, were on stand-by, but there were no reported injuries among passengers, crew, or the vessel itself. Transformation of the Adler Dania: A Vintage German Ferry Becomes the KOI Event Ship

Aug 16, 2014 09:08

In a bold move to revitalize its fleet, the north German operator Adler Schiffe has transformed its 35-year-old ferry, the Adler Dania, into a modern excursion and event vessel named KOI. Rather than face the scrap yard, this iconic ship underwent a significant redesign and renovation at a cost of €2 million, returning to the water with a new lease on life. The KOI measures 53.6 meters in length and 10.1 meters in width, boasting a draft of 2.1 meters and the capacity to accommodate up to 650 passengers comfortably. The conversion was carried out at the renowned Husumer Dock & Reparatur (HDR), turning the ferry into a dynamic club and party venue that offers an exciting experience during charter excursions or while docked at various North Sea and Baltic ports such as Husum, Flensburg, Kiel, Lübeck, and Hamburg. Future plans for the KOI include expanding its voyages along the entire German Baltic coast, reaching as far as Ruegen and Wismar. This innovative concept aligns with popular similar ships that operate in the Rhine and across international waters. Originally constructed in 1980 in Husum, the Adler Dania served as an excursion vessel providing Duty Free trips and later facilitated journeys between Germany and Poland. Under the leadership of North Frisian shipowner Sven Paulsen, Adler Schiffe commissioned the extensive refurbishment and modernization of the ferry, marking a new chapter in its storied history.
