Working Conditions Aboard the Komandor

In the early hours of April 29, 2023, at approximately 0506 LT, a maritime incident unfolded in the eastern section of the Okhotsk Sea when two fishing vessels collided. The trawler Yakov Pavlov was involved in the accident with the fishing vessel (f/v) Komandor, which emerged from the encounter without any damage. However, the trawler sustained significant damage, revealing a breach measuring 20x12 cm located below the waterline in the cargo hold area. To counteract the effects of the breach, the trawler was ballasted to create a list of 15 degrees towards the damaged side, allowing for effective water removal. Following this, the hole was successfully sealed using a rigid mat. Aware of the situation, the master of the Yakov Pavlov called for assistance, prompting the nearby salvage tug Spravedliviy to head towards the stricken vessel. The two vessels rendezvoused at coordinates 56°23′0″N, 153°37′0″E on April 30, 2023, at 0610. The trawler, now under the escort of the salvage tug, was on a course towards Hairyuzovo Point along the western coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, traveling at a speed of 5 knots amid favorable weather conditions.
