Officer Faces Charges for Illegal Ballast Water Discharge in the North Sea
On February 4, 2026, at around 2:00 p.m., an inspection of the cargo vessel 'Kongo Star' at Covestro Pier in Brunsbüttel led to the alarming discovery of illegal activities. Water police officials found that the ship had discharged a staggering 2,200 cubic meters of untreated ballast water directly into the North Sea. The responsible party for this environmental violation was identified as the 1st officer aboard the vessel. Following consultations with a judicial authority, the officers were mandated to pay a substantial security deposit amounting to €26,253.50. The 'Kongo Star' subsequently departed from Brunsbüttel on February 5, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., continuing its journey amidst these serious allegations.
Heroic Medevac Operation in Brodick Bay
On March 7, 2021, at precisely 4:53 p.m., a dramatic medical emergency unfolded in Brodick Bay, prompting swift action from the Troon lifeboat. Tasked by Belfast Coastguard, the Troon crew joined forces with the Arran lifeboat for a critical patient evacuation from the tanker 'Kongo Star', which was anchored in the bay. In response to the situation, the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter, designated Rescue 199, was also deployed. The Troon RNLI's all-weather lifeboat, RNLB Jim Moffat, was promptly launched and forged its way toward Brodick. Upon arrival, it coordinated with the Arran inshore lifeboat, Atlantic 85 'Rachel Hedderwick'. Two dedicated crew members from the all-weather lifeboat boarded the 'Kongo Star' to facilitate the careful transfer of the casualty onto the helicopter. Once the patient was safely winched up and en route to the hospital, Belfast Coastguard stood down both lifeboats from the operation. Following this successful mission, the all-weather lifeboat returned to Troon, where it was readied for service again with the assistance of the shore crew.
