On February 8, 2016, the chemical tanker 'Atlantis Armona' experienced a significant gearbox failure while navigating the waters off Le Havre. The vessel, which was sailing from Antwerp to Le Havre without any cargo, dropped anchor approximately 3.7 nautical miles from Saint-Jouin-Bruneval, close to the iconic Cap d'Antifer. At 2:30 p.m., the crew promptly notified the CROSS Jobourg of the situation. Given the prevailing weather conditions, the Maritime Operations Centre wasted no time in deploying the tug 'Abeille Liberté' as a preventative measure. The Maritime Prefect also directed the shipowner to implement necessary precautions to avert potential hazards.
