Houthi Drone Assaults Tanker 'Sai Baba' in Red Sea
On December 23, 2023, the tanker 'Sai Baba', manned by a crew of 25 Indian nationals, was reportedly struck by a one-way drone launched by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The incident took place in the Red Sea at approximately 10:30 AM IST, yet thankfully, there were no reported injuries among the crew members. According to the United States Naval Forces Central Command (CENTCOM), earlier that day, two anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched by Houthi forces towards international shipping routes in the Southern Red Sea. Around 8:00 AM Sanaa time, CENTCOM received alerts from two vessels indicating they were under attack. In response to the unfolding situation, the USS 'Laboon' was deployed to assist the distressed ships and successfully intercepted and destroyed four drones targeting it, all of which originated from Houthi-controlled regions of Yemen during its patrol in the Southern Red Sea.
