Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), under the leadership of President & CEO Junichiro Ikeda, has officially commenced its first Transportation Service contract with Uniper Global Commodities SE as its newly delivered LNG carrier, LNG Schneeweisschen, sets sail. This milestone was reached on July 31, when the vessel, ordered jointly by MOL and Itochu Corporation, was launched from the renowned Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) shipyard located in Okpo, South Korea. The LNG Schneeweisschen is now positioned to engage in multiple voyages under its contract with Uniper Global Commodities SE, a subsidiary of one of Europe's preeminent energy giants, Uniper SE, which was established on January 1, 2016, following the split from E.ON’s fossil fuel assets. This state-of-the-art LNG carrier is equipped with groundbreaking technologies, including the innovative slow-speed two-stroke engine (X-DF) by Winterthur Gas & Diesel, capable of operating on natural gas, marine gas oil (MGO), and heavy fuel oil, enhancing engine efficiency significantly. Furthermore, it features DSME's advanced Methane Refrigeration System-Full Re-liquefaction (MRS-F), which effectively re-liquefies surplus boil-off gas, returning it as LNG to the cargo tank, thereby optimizing the LNG transport process. Both technologies are set to revolutionize the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of LNG transportation.
