In a thrilling incident on February 8, 2021, at 5:20 a.m., the tanker 'Sea King' faced a bold piracy attempt approximately 74 nautical miles southwest of Port Gentil, in position 00°59.48'S 007°32.40'E. A group of men boarded a small boat, launched from a nearby mother vessel, and approached the tanker with intentions to board. However, the crew of the 'Sea King' quickly initiated evasive maneuvers, leveraging the ship's high freeboard to outmaneuver the attackers. This strategic response prompted the would-be pirates to abort their mission and retreat. Thankfully, both the vessel and its crew emerged unscathed, allowing the 'Sea King' to proceed safely on its journey.

The Greek-owned very large crude carrier (VLCC) Sea King has been reported as disabled and drifting since July 26 in the Atlantic, approximately 110 nautical miles west of Lisbon, Portugal. The tanker was originally en route from the United Kingdom to Yeosu, South Korea, when it experienced engine failure. As of 0200 UTC on August 3, the vessel still remained adrift around 90 nautical miles west of Lisbon. In a recent update, the Sea King has altered its destination, now aiming for Scapa Flow in northern Great Britain.
