Successful Medevac Operation for Seafarer Near Porbandar

Jul 27, 2026 19:43

On July 26, 2026, the Indian Coast Guard successfully executed a challenging medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation off the coast of Porbandar, rescuing a 21-year-old crew member from the tanker 'Murlikishan'. The operation was launched after the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai alerted Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 1 (CGDHQ-1) about the seafarer's worsening health condition, which included acute chest pain and a high fever. As the situation developed on the night of July 25, Coast Guard officials quickly sprang into action, activating a Search and Rescue (SAR) response. Recognizing that the rough sea conditions would make open sea evacuation impractical, they collaborated with Porbandar port authorities at dawn on July 26 to secure a safe anchorage for the vessel. 'Murlikishan' was authorized to anchor 2.1 nautical miles off the breakwater. Despite securing anchorage, deteriorating weather conditions and stringent port berthing regulations prevented the vessel from docking at the GMB Jetty. As conditions worsened throughout the day, the Coast Guard deployed an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) for the final leg of the evacuation. The helicopter successfully evacuated the seafarer, transporting him to the Coast Guard Air Enclave (CGAE) in Porbandar. Upon arrival, the patient was assessed by a medical officer from the Indian Coast Guard before being transferred to Asha Hospital for specialized care. Thankfully, he was reported to be in stable condition following the ordeal. Tragic Incident Aboard Bianca Amoretti: Investigation Underway

Apr 25, 2016 09:35

On the morning of April 24, 2016, a somber event unfolded aboard the tanker "Bianca Amoretti" while it was anchored in Malamocco. A crew member, engaged in routine operations within one of the ship's tanks, was discovered unresponsive by two fellow crew members. Promptly notified, the Coast Guard initiated an investigation into the unsettling circumstances, but unfavorable sea conditions posed challenges for their response efforts. Subsequently, the tanker was ordered to proceed to Porto Marghera, where it successfully docked at the Eni refinery within the Venice Commercial Terminals at approximately 3 p.m. As investigators examined the scene, their attention was inevitably drawn to a visible deep wound in the throat of the deceased, raising serious questions about the incident.
