New Charter Agreement Secured for Thoresen Vessel
A new charter has been successfully arranged for a Thoresen vessel, with delivery scheduled from Saldanha Bay between October 27 and October 30, 2019. The charter rate is set at a competitive $14,000 per day, accompanied by a substantial ballast bonus of $430,000. The vessel is expected to be redelivered within the Singapore-Japan range, marking another strategic move for Thoresen in the maritime industry.
Successful Salvage Operation of Moondance II Off East Kalimantan Coast
On February 2, 2011, Tsavrilis Salvage International Ltd. announced the successful redelivery of the cargo vessel 'Moondance II' to its owners following a challenging salvage operation. The ship had encountered difficulties when it ran aground approximately 25 miles from the East Kalimantan coast, near Borneo's southeastern edge of the Karang Malalungan coral reef, on January 25. A specialized salvage team, comprised of experts from both Holland and Greece, was quickly mobilized to address the situation. Prior to the main salvage efforts, a dedicated salvage tug was already on the scene since January 13, 2011. The initial phase of the operation included lightening the load of the vessel, which was carrying 51,000 tons of coal, starting on January 26. This cumbersome process involved transferring approximately 18,000 tons of cargo into three chartered barges. On January 30, at 2:15 p.m., the 'Moondance II' was successfully refloated, allowing the team to proceed with reloading the cargo, which was completed by February 1. This operation highlights the resilience and expertise of maritime salvage teams in overcoming significant challenges at sea.
