The permanent restoration efforts for the fire-damaged vessel, LR2 Poseideon, are currently underway at a shipyard in Tuzla. Following the guidance of the class surveyor, substantial repair work continues to ensure the ship’s seaworthiness. Upon the completion of these essential repairs, safety tests, including evaluations of gas leaks and alarm sensor levels, will be conducted to guarantee compliance with maritime safety standards. After the extensive repair operations, the LR2 Poseideon commenced her journey from Tuzla on April 3 at 5:30 p.m., setting sail towards Istanbul.

On January 28, 2019, a devastating fire erupted in the boiler room of the 'LR2 Poseidon' during maintenance work at a Tuzla repair yard. This catastrophic event was preceded by a significant explosion that tragically claimed the lives of two shipyard workers and left ten others injured, raising serious safety concerns in the maritime industry. The crisis prompted an immediate response from local authorities, with the fire brigade quickly arriving on the scene with three fire trucks and a force of 110 firefighters who successfully brought the blaze under control in a short time. In the wake of this disaster, the Anatolian Chief Prosecutor's Office has initiated an extensive investigation to determine the cause and ensure accountability.
