Working Conditions Aboard the Maran-Artemis

On the evening of April 18, at approximately 7:27 p.m., the rescue vessel 'Salvamar Enif' successfully saved five individuals from a small inflatable boat stranded in the Strait of Gibraltar. This dramatic rescue unfolded 20 nautical miles from Trafalgar, where maritime authorities had initiated a search operation after being notified of the boat's location by a nearby vessel. Just before 8:00 p.m., another crucial rescue by the 'Salvamar Denébola' took place, bringing in two additional individuals found 19 nautical miles from Punta Europa. The operation included assistance from the SAR helicopter Helimer 220, which, along with other vessels, participated in locating the inflatable kayak amid challenging conditions. Notably, the 'Maran Artemis,' en route from Fos sur Mer to Algeciras, played a vital role by reporting the sighting of the capsized boat along with the positions of its two unaccounted occupants. Subsequently, all rescued individuals were safely transported to Algeciras, highlighting the swift and effective maritime response in the area.
