Emergency Medical Evacuation at Table Bay
On April 2, 2017, at 6 p.m., the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Table Bay duty team sprang into action, deploying the rescue vessel "Spirit of Vodacom" in response to a medical emergency aboard the "Marianne Stoeger". The cargo ship, en route from New Orleans to Singapore, reported that a crew member was experiencing serious chest pains. A government health EMS doctor conducted an evaluation of the patient’s condition via communication with the ship’s crew and recommended immediate medical intervention. As the vessel navigated along the Cape coast towards Table Bay, the NSRI received the alert from the Transnet National Ports Authority to facilitate the patient's urgent evacuation. Upon reaching the scene near the Port of Table Bay, an EMS rescue paramedic, accompanied by two NSRI rescuers, boarded the "Marianne Stoeger". After stabilizing the 45-year-old South Korean sailor, they safely transferred him onto the rescue craft. He was subsequently brought into the Port of Table Bay and then transported by EMS ambulance in stable condition for further medical care.
